Hockey is back!… Day 1055 07OCT11

Joshua got up early to get his pre-med and put emla in his port in preparation for Caroline coming to give him his IVIG today. She arrived a little after 8 and Joshua got accessed and hooked up to his IV pump. He spent the next six hours carrying it around the house until the transfusion was complete. Caroline de-accessed his port and headed out leaving Joshua to rest for the rest of the afternoon. He did great and was only a little tired afterwards, we are lucky to have such a great nurse take care of him. He had enough energy to go out and skate with me for a bit and then go out after dinner to pass the puck around until the hockey game started.

Tonight was the Lightning's first regular season game so the family all gathered around the tele to watch them play Carolina. We won 5-1 which is a great start! It was fun to get started on the season with the kids, we all enjoy watching the games together. In the morning the boys and I get our time on the ice so we all got off to bed after the game was finished to get our rest.

Testing complete… Day 1054 06OCT11

Joshua finished up his testing this morning and we got it scanned into the computer and sent off to be graded. It looked like he did really well and we are sure that his teachers will agree.

For the afternoon Joshua was kind of tired and spent most of his time resting. He did go out and skate with me for a bit and did just fine.

For our evening fun we headed in to the Children's Cancer Center for family night. It was a pretty busy night and we had a lot of families there. We had a nice dinner from Olive Garden and spent a while visiting with all of the other parents. The kids, as usual, had a lot of fun and ran around with their friends. We headed home afterwards just in time to get the boys in bed on time.

Testing, testing… Day 1053 05OCT11

Joshua spent today working on his first unit test that he will take after he completes a block of twenty lessons in his curriculum. He did really well and has stayed focused and on task the whole time. After he got finished it was play time for the rest of the day. Tomorrow will be more testing and he should get it finished up.

Night at Grandmas… Day 1052 04OCT11

Joshua had a normal school day and despite the typical Tuesday chemo fog did really well. The rest of the boys afternoon was pretty routine. Before dinner Renee dropped them off at grandmas house to spend the night enjoy some time with their grandparents. I am sure that they will have a great time and come home tomorrow morning rested and ready to go.

Afternoon with Carly… Day 1051 03OCT11

Joshua woke up and got started on his school work this morning. Renee said he did really well and managed to get through it all without a lot of trouble. Carly had an early release day so she and Joshua decided to get together and enjoy the afternoon. He came home after dark with a smile on his face and said that they had a great time. I am sure they spent most of the time outside in the pretty weather of our finally arrived autumn.

Another nice one… Day 1050 02OCT11

Joshua got up early and headed off to church with Renee and Jarrod. Afterwards he went home with Pa so he could spend some time with Taylor and Avery. Renee's dad invited us over for brunch so we all went over and had a great meal and a nice visit.

We were getting ready to go skate the afternoon session and Joshua decided he wasn't going to go because his back was bothering him. He had complained a little bit last night and spent some time on the heating pad. So Jarrod and I dropped him back off at pa's house so he could play some more and we headed up to the rink to get some ice time in. We had a good hard skate and enjoyed ourselves. It is always a good feeling to be tired knowing that you worked hard at something you enjoy.

We were lucky to have another nice day served up to us and we took advantage of it and spent most of the afternoon and evening outside. Joshua was feeling better after dinner so we threw our skates on and went out into the street for a nice while until the end of the sunshine forced us back inside.

Tomorrow is back to the normal grind for all of us with work for me and school for the boys, just another Monday :)

Beautiful day!… Day 1049 01OCT11

We all got up and had a good breakfast before setting off for our hockey class. It was a fun class and we all did quite well and enjoyed every minute of it. Our time on the ice is something we all look forward to. Renee came along to observe and watch the boys.

The rest of the day was very enjoyable due to the absolutely splendid weather we were lucky enough to have today. We spent the vast majority of it outside and ate both lunch and dinner on the deck. We even got to let Hobie out for a bit of fresh air and a nap with the cool breeze blowing over him.

My dad came over for a visit with his new house mate Missy. She is the dog that he was taking care of and had now adopted. She is really cute and quite well behaved. We enjoyed our visit and I am glad that he has found a companion to keep him company at home.

After dinner we headed out to skate and pass the puck around. It was so nice outside we kept going until the sun disappeared. We can only hope that the weather keeps getting better and that the oppressive summer heat and humidity will remain just a memory until next year. I for one have all my fingers crossed :)
